The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved GSK’s Hibsago, also known as bepirovirsen, for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B, according to StreetInsider. Economictimes also reported the approval, describing it as an option that may allow patients to better manage their condition after therapy.

Approval for chronic hepatitis B

StreetInsider reported that Hibsago was developed by GSK in collaboration with Ionis Pharmaceuticals. The FDA decision applies to chronic hepatitis B virus treatment.

Economictimes reported that the medicine is already approved in Japan and is being assessed in China and Europe. The publication also said the collaboration with Ionis Pharmaceuticals includes milestone payments.

Commercial conversation for field teams

For pharmaceutical sales professionals following hepatitis B care, the approval places Hibsago into a newly defined U.S. regulatory position. Discussions with stakeholders can center on the FDA-approved indication and the role of GSK and Ionis in the product’s development, while keeping clinical conversations aligned with approved product information.

The reports also place the U.S. decision within GSK’s broader international regulatory activity for Hibsago. Economictimes said GSK is pursuing annual revenues of over £40 billion by 2031, while identifying Hibsago’s approval as part of the company’s hepatitis B treatment activity.
